How to Understand the Unmatched Supremacy of Jesus
Understanding the Unmatched Supremacy of Jesus
When life feels overwhelming and spiritual battles rage around us, it’s easy to forget who holds ultimate power. The Bible reminds us that Jesus is not just strong—He is supreme over every principality, power, ruler of darkness, and forces of spiritual wickedness. His authority has no rival. In this study, we’ll explore what Scripture reveals about Christ’s unmatched supremacy, why it matters in our daily walk, and how His victory over the unseen realm gives us strength to stand firm in faith.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)

Below is the disclaimer scripture…THE truth that everyone must embrace.
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him. And he is before all things, and by him all things consists. And having made peace through the blood of His cross, by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Colossians 1:16-17, 20 (KJV)
This scripture it the key to understanding the unmatched supremacy of Jesus. No matter what opposition rises up in the unseen realm, Jesus reigns supreme. There is no power, throne, force, or devil in hell that is above Him because all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:3 kjv
Why Christ’s Supremacy Matters in Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that our battles, conflicts, and spiritual warfare are not against flesh and blood (human enemies), but against demonic powers in the unseen realm. Here are the four categories Paul names:
1. Principalities (Rulers)
demonic powers with high rank positions, or titles such as prince, general, or commander in a district, region, or territory.
Strategically assigned to geographical areas and influential systems; these rulers seek to control and dominate
- Greek Word: Archē ( ar-kay, root of “archaic”) — speaks of original power or ancient order like the fallen angels who were on earth prior to the fall of man
- Biblical Examples:
- Daniel 10:13 – Prince of Persia held up God’s messenger for 21 days
- Mark 5:10 – Legion of demons begged Jesus not to send them out of the region
2. Powers (Delegated Authorities)
endued with the ability, right, or privilege to act; and operate in designated jurisdictions to enforce demonic agendas
Much like spiritual offices in the church: Ministers, Pastors, Apostles, Bishops have some overlap of responsibilities, related to living holy and preaching the word, but overall their delegated authority is specific to their purpose, gifts, and talents based on the administration as well as diversity of operation by the Holy Spirit. These individuals operate with limited authority and do only what God permits.
- Luke 10:19 – When you live for Christ you have power over all the power of the enemy…greater is He that lives in me than he that’s in the world
3. Rulers of Darkness of this world (Cosmic Powers)
refers to the prince of this era of existence (the devil); exercising satanic dominance to promote spiritual alienation or estrangement of souls from YHWH, God the Father… through spiritual blindness and deception leading to the rejection of God’s Love and light.
- 2 Corinthians 4:4 – The god of this world (little “g”) blinds the minds of unbelievers
- 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 – Satan masquerades as an angel of light, and his ministers also pretend to be righteous
This is the spiritual root of today’s “shadiness“—false prophets who manipulate, deceive, and lead others away from God, are all under the influence of darkness. If the message doesn’t link up with scripture. Do not accept the information as truth. The entire reason Jesus die for our sins was to prove His love for us and give us power over the enemy through his unmated supremacy.
Think of the world like a city. Parts of it are filled with light, and others are under heavy clouds, shadow, or attack. The “Rulers of darkness” try to keep people in those shadowy parts—confused, hurting, angry, and lost. But when a messenger of the Lord brings the gospel (good news of Jesus), it’s like turning on the lights and being made free. The darkness can’t stay when the divine protection of God arrives.
4. Spiritual Wickedness
an army of demons or fallen angels of lawlessness trained in all manner of evil and destruction, to inflict harm; delight in mischief and tragedies, corrupt others into destruction. Basically there are forces of malicious spirits plotting against you — that love chaos and torment, and desire to block your growth in God.
- Ephesians 2:2, the power of the prince of the air is the spirit that works in and through the children of disobedience…they thrive on fleshly lust, pride, and rebellion
…IN high places; this activity takes place in the heavenly realm, below God’s throne but above the sky of the natural world….it is invisible; but the activity impacts the souls on earth based on who they stand with God or Satan. Notice this level is below God’s feet. Jesus sits on the right hand of the Father, which is the place of power, showing his unmatched supremacy. Every knew shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is LORD.
Think of life like a battlefield. You can only see what’s around you. But there’s an unseen war going on in the air above, where forces of light and darkness clash. You don’t fight with swords or fists—you fight by standing firm in God’s truth, having a spirit of humility, prayer, fasting, and showing the love of Jesus.
Christ: The Fullness of God and the Final Authority Over All Powers
Despite the intense spiritual battles we face daily, Jesus has ALL authority. His power isn’t just strong—it’s Dunamis (Greek root for “dynamite”). That’s miraculous, explosive, supernatural power. For everyone that is trusting HIM to overcome in their life and circumstances He will because Jesus never fails! He died so that everyone could be free from sin, including the 8.2 billion people that are currently alive and multi-millions that are currently in the grave.
Understanding the unmatched supremacy of Jesus means, even when God allows us to be tested, it’s not to destroy us—but to develop us. God the Father sometimes allows Satan (permissive will) to come for us…the test, trials, and tribulations are for the sake of Spiritual Maturity and to bring the Will of God into fruition.
- Job 1:6-12 – God permitted Satan to test Job, not because Job sinned, but because God was proud of him. God asks have you considered my servant, insert your name…Some of us, like Job, truly do live holy and walk circumspectly before God, and the attacks come because He brags on how you love Him and will not turn your back on Him. What a great honor to keep a smile on the face of our Heavenly Father because we will not move without His instructions or approval!!!!
- If this is not your testimony, repent and start again!
- 2 Corinthians 12:7 – Paul’s thorn was a satanic attack, but it kept him humble, and he learned that God’s grace was more than enough because God’s favor would be with him even in the suffering. That applies to us too, no matter what we face we have victory in Jesus and His unmatched supremacy.
To reign with Christ we must, suffer with Christ. He didn’t have it easy taking our sins out of existence and we don’t get to take the easy road either!
Jesus is the KING of kings. He rules over every land, every army, and every power, seen and unseen. He has no equal and reigns supreme. Every creature, human and spiritual being, answers to Him—even the rebels. The rebellious ones, like satan and his demons try to deceive people by fighting against the King’s truth. They may stir up trouble, but they are already defeated. They’ve been pushed out of the King’s throne room and have no legal authority…just temporary influence over those who don’t follow THE KING, BUT it carries an eternal price.
Undeniable Proof of Christ’s Supremacy Over Every Power
Ephesians 1:19–23 (KJV)
And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power. Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised Him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but in the world to come.
- Exceeding greatness = His NEVER ending great and mighty power and limitless authority; IS IN those who believe, IT IS the same power He used
- Wrought = Produced, or worked through suffering; Jesus was beaten until He was unrecognizable. All of our sin, rebellion, lies, manipulations, deceptions, covetousness, filthiness, fornication, adultery, lack of faith, doubt, addictions, and shame was beaten off of Him.
- The Goldsmith knows he has removed all impurities when he can see his reflection and our Father God is no different. When He could see HIS reflection, when He could see Christ, and when He could see the Holy Ghost instead of sin and shame…He knew satan, sin, hell, death, and the grave were defeated.
- Seated far above = Jesus’ authority overrides everything and everyone. Can you see the unmatched supremacy of Jesus now?
So basically, THE King Gave You His Royal Seal, meaning:
- You represent Him wherever you go.
- You can speak with His authority, by the SAME POWER
- The enemy may attack, but they recognize who you belong to—and who your King is. They’re attacking knowing they lose. Part of the point is to slow you down since they can’t stop you or cause doubt in your heart when the outcome isn’t what you had hope for. The Pharisees and Sadducees plotted and attacked BUT miracles, healings, and resurrections were still performed by Jesus. So as a follower of Christ you must keep going and do the Will of him that sent you!
This is what it means to be “seated with Christ in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 2:6). You don’t fight alone—you fight under the King’s banner. Therefore, your enemies are DEFEATED because Jesus secured your victory! No matter what is said or done against you, the unmatched supremacy of Jesus is your shield to reverse it.
JESUS Reigns The Fullness of Deity and Triumph Over Darkness
Colossians 2:9-10 KJV
In Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power. And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
- Verse 9: Total divinity lives in Jesus, the fullness of the Triune God
- Verse 10: You are made complete in Him—He fills every spiritual void, when His righteousness lives in you. HE has the highest rank and authority.
- Verse 15: Jesus disarmed demonic rulers and made a public spectacle of them—triumphing openly (ESV)
Jesus rose from the dead with all power in His hands, He has the keys of death, hell and the grave. He is the undefeated Champion. His unmatched supremacy is a legacy all by itself. Will you be a spectator or participator in that legacy?
Imagine a kingdom with a great King (God) and His loyal army (warrior angels). There were some generals (principalities) who rebelled and now try to rule their own territories in the shadows. But the King sent His Son (Jesus), who conquered them all. Now you, as part of His kingdom, are learning to live in that victory and help bring light to the dark places they once ruled. This is how you use the unmatched supremacy authority that Jesus gave to those who believe.
Call to Action: Are You On His Side?
Understanding the unmatched supremacy of Jesus means Satan is already defeated. Every power, principality, dominion, ruler, enchantment, incantation, spells, black magic, white magic, voo doo, root work, hexes, crystals, divination, astrology, horoscopes, and powers of darkness are already defeated.
But here’s the question:
Are you walking in that victory?
Do you know Jesus in the pardon of your sins?
If not, don’t delay. You can repent and be restored right now. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9
